10 years into this photography gig thing professionally and I finally have a blog! Let me start by giving a quick introduction of who I am and letting you know what direction my blog will take.
My name is Tiffany Richards and I am the proud owner of Tiffany Eberline Photography & Film. The film part is brand new.... but that sure does look nice!
I am based in Northern Michigan and travel worldwide. I specialize in newborn and wedding photography and have trained with some of the nation’s leading photographers and cinematographers.
I wanted my first blog post to be magical – something to really draw my crowd in but the things is, it’s really difficult to talk about yourself! I don’t want to overthink things, and re-read what I write a million times to make sure it sounds just perfect. I want to give you everything as it is. I’m a straight forward kind of person (and need to be for my day job – but ill get to that later).
I hope to give you an understanding and foundation of who I am, and who my team is – along with amazing photos and film of my clients. I will add in my travels for sure because that is also SUPER important to me.
So, here’s the thing, I wanted to share a bit about myself and my life as a photographer but I just didn’t know how to start it. It’s hard to talk about yourself!
I like to focus on other people and could write all day long about my favorite people but the second the tables are turned.... Yikes.
So, three of my four girls decided “they should interview me for my blog” and I thought this was an awesome idea. My husband also had a few questions so I added his in too.
So, the raw cut (exactly what they asked me) goes a little something like this:
My daughters are 15, 13, 12 and 8 (YES, pray for me!).
Tae: Have you always loved photography?
The answer is a STRONG yes! I remember as a child always asking for cameras for holidays. Back then they were long and rectangle, they reminded me of a mac & cheese box. Digital film was not a thing (I promise I’m in my 30s) and traveling to Rite Aid weekly to pick up my blurry, unfocused art was the highlight of my day! My room had a wall entirely of 4x6 prints mounted with scotch tape of everything and anything. I had a book shelf that was filled with photo albums. Side note: my daughter Emma did not know what a photo album was! That will be an entirely different blog post one day because I am passionate about bringing back the physical treasure of a photo! Not just a digital copy of an image but something that is printed and put in an album! Stay tunes for that!
I also had a stack of every single Anne Geddes book in my room because flipping through those baby pictures seemed magical to me. Still do! If you have not heard of Anne Geddes, google it RIGHT NOW. Well, when you are done reading this of course.
Emma: What do you like to take pics of the most?
Oooo newborns melt my heart every.single.time.
I’ve always LOVED babies (honestly... bald baby dolls ...they specifically had to be bald or they didn’t make me think of a brand new baby for some reason.... were my childhood. Well, and the mac n cheese box shaped cameras.
BUT, I have to give my number one passion to weddings. That love story.... a day to spend with a family filled with happiness. At first I couldn’t nail down why weddings were so special to me until one day it just hits you, everyone is always happy!! The day is filled with people close to the couple sharing hugs and smiles and enjoying this moment. You can always feel Gods presence. Its indescribable to me. YOU get to be the person chosen to document their moments. Live these small seconds with them. You get to be part of their beginning!
I love weddings. And I really love beaches. And together I become the happiest photographer in the world! My goal, literally my ultimate goal is to be a destination wedding photographer. One thing I will always promise to my couples is that they will get 110% of me. Always.
Emma: What is the coolest place you’ve ever visited to do photography?
St. Marteen or Jamaica for sure.
We seen a ship stroll around a cove as we were swimming on a beach. It was incredible. All I had was my cell phone but this photo is insane. Be inspired because some of my ABSOLUTE favorite photos are with my cell phone.
My other favorite place was this little village in Ochos Rios Jamaica. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon and it was super important to me that we walk around and capture the people in their environment, living their real life (my number one favorite thing to do when I travel). I always ask if its ok to take their photos because some cultures are NOT ok with it! I learned the hard way when I was in St. Thomas and a guy walking down the street screamed at the top of his lungs (in a super loud jumble- could have been a different language but I’m almost certain he was just really drunk) this weird spell he was putting on me. It was funny but scary at the same time because what if he really did put a spell on me? Everyone I was with thought it was hilarious but to this day I still wonder if I’m under some spell?
Do you like action shots? Elyse – 12-year-old
Freezing motion is one of the most interesting elements of photography in my eyes. I do shoot sports but love to freeze water and droplets! I love to slow my shutter and get the opposite effect, a blurry waterfall too!
Johns Qs {hubby had a few}-
What has been your weirdest requested photo shoot?
I had an older lady call and ask me to do a headshot to use for her obituary. Part of me is thinking... this lady is awesome.. she wants to be remembered looking all nice with a nice quality picture. But then im thinking, this is super sad and scary and weird all at the same time. She planned to call me later in the week to set up the time for the session and she never called back.
What are your favorite hobbies
Beaches, traveling, reading, beaches, crafts and beaches.
What is your dream photoshoot?
-boudoir session with Johnny Depp
This should give a pretty solid foundation of me but for a few more little tid bits of info., here is random things I can think of that describe myself, my team and my wild Brady Bunch life.
My second shooter is Zach from ZM Photography. We have TOO much fun together and he is an incredible photographer. My husband also mans a camera and primarily grabs drone footage. He is the opposite of me and somehow that works really well. Oddly, my team all has public service jobs here in our little Northern Michigan town/ Zach works for 911, my husband is a Sergeant with the Michigan State Police and I’m a Parole Agent for the state of Michigan.
My husband I and married 3 years ago (ish) and we both brought three children to the marriage. We are your REAL day Brady Bunch. I also have 2 german shepherds, an old English bulldog and two cats. I love my pets more than most people and I am NOT kidding about this.
I love avocados, have a really weird pen obsession, hate white rice, once won a twist dance contest (yes, I was 8) and LOVE Johnny Depp and beaches. If you did not know that last part... I lost you somewhere in this post.
With all that said, I hope you enjoy my blog. I promise to share the best I can capture and document struggles to overcome as an artist. I’d love some positive shout outs!
XOXO tiffany
